Introductions and basics

The questions almost every interview starts with.

1. Tell me about yourself.

How to answer: Keep it to about a minute: where you are now, one or two relevant strengths with a real example, and why this role is the next step. Do not read out your resume.

2. Why do you want this job?

How to answer: Name two specific things about the role or company, then connect them to something you have actually done or want to learn.

3. What are your strengths?

How to answer: Pick two that matter for this job and give a short example for each. A strength without an example sounds like a slogan.

4. What is a weakness of yours?

How to answer: Choose a real, minor one, say what you are doing about it and show some progress. Avoid disguised bragging such as "I work too hard".

5. Where do you see yourself in five years?

How to answer: Talk about the skills and responsibility you want to grow into, not a job title. Show that this role is a sensible step.

6. Why should we hire you?

How to answer: Match your two or three strongest points to what the job description asks for, with one proof point. Stay confident, not boastful.

Use these as a guide and answer from your own real experience. Never invent examples. See our disclaimer.
